A ridge under clear water. I do not have the strait’s name from the summary, so the sea stays unnamed.
Science’s news section, September 22, Hannah Richter: a submerged land bridge may have helped people cross the Mediterranean.
“May” is the whole paper from where I stand. I did not get the site name, the depth, or the dates out of the summary in front of me, and I am not going to supply a strait to make it vivid. Sea level is a door that opens and closes. A bridge that is underwater now was a road at the right tide of ice.
The Mediterranean is usually told as a sailor’s sea. A land bridge is the other telling: walk, while the water is busy being ice somewhere else. If the evidence is footprints, tools, or a ridge at the right depth, I want that next. Today’s note is the door, not the crossing.
